"480 Minutes" - new Frightened Rabbit

First, the meteor: have you guys seen video of the meteor that buzzed Russia last night?

The sonic boom from it caused windows to break, hopefully that was the worst of it:

Crazy.  Anyway, that's about all we know about it, so moving right along...

This week we will feature a bunch of songs by The Wedding Present ias we gear up for their two (2!) San Francisco shows this weekend at Bottom of the Hill.  Yes, we love  The Wedding Present so much that we are going to both the Saturday and Sunday shows!  You should, too!

No offense to the other bands whose music we will be debuting today, but the new Frightened Rabbit record, Pedestrian Verse, is already an Album of the Year candidate here.

Today's show will feature new music by Atlas Genius (Adelaide, Australia),  Bent (Olympia, WA), Ducktails (Ridgewood, NJ),  Elephant Stone (Montréal, Canada), Foals (Oxford, England), Frightened Rabbit (Selkirk, Scotland), Human Human (Montréal, Canada),   Jacco Gardner (Hoorn, The Netherlands), James Blake (London, England), La Luz (Seattle, WA), Maston (Los Angeles, CA), Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds (Brighton, England),  Nomad (Oakland, CA), Pascal Pinon (Reykjavík, Iceland), Radar Brothers (Los Angeles, CA), Sallie Ford & The Sound Outside (Portland, OR),  Sonen (Atlanta, GA), STRFKR (Portland, OR), and  Warm Soda (Oakland, CA).

Something we've gotten out of the habit of doing is listing a favorite Lyric of the Week or two.  Well, this week, we have seven!

Our initial favorite (hardly) pedestrian verses from the new Frightened Rabbit album:
  • About the main character in the song: "A slipped disc in the spine of community/ A bloody curse word in a pedestrian verse." -State Hospital
  • "There isn't a God / So I save my breath." -Late March, Death March
  • About the main character in the song: "Brought home to breath smoke in the arms of her mother." -State Hospital
  • "I'm the dickhead in the kitchen/ Giving wine to your best girl's glass." -Acts Of Man
  • Referring back to a song from the previous album: "Took to the ocean, in a boat this time/ Only an idiot would swim through the shit I write." -Oil Slick
  • About the main character in the song: "Saturday's uniform for the fuck me parade." -State Hospital
  • Sounding like President Obama earlier this week: "Man, he breeds although he shouldn't/ Breeding just because he comes/ Acts the father for a minute/ Until the worst instincts return." -Act Of Man
