"480 Minutes" - New GBV, Feral Future, Tower Of Light
So, umm, my garage and psych rock fascination may now be a full-blown obsession. I actually
hated pretty much all of the synth-based stuff submitted this week. Everything from the sub-Animal Collective chant-alongs to apparent attempts at belatedly soundtracking Beverly Hills Cop, it was just one miserable synthesized Necco wafer after another. I understand that many of the artists producing this crap are too young to have witnessed people wearing Members Only jackets without irony, or to suffer through "
The Neutron Dance," but for crying out loud people: reminding those of us who were there is simply cruel.
With that in mind, today's brand new episode of
480 Minutes (Friday 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Eastern U.S.Time) and debut songs by
Feral Future (Austin, TX),
Guided By Voices (Dayton, OH, @GBVTweets),
Helm's Alee (Seattle, WA, @HelmsAleeMusic),
Kevin Drew (Broken Social Scene, Montreal, Canada, @KevinSelection),
Lost In The Trees (Chappel Hill, NC, @littband),
PyPy (Montréal, Canada),
The New Mendicants (Teenage Fanclub/Pernice Bros, @NewMendicants),
The Noise Figures (Athens, Greece, @TheNoiseFigures),
Skaters (New York, NY, @SkatersNY),
Sleepy Sun (San Francisco, CA, @SleepySunMusic), and
The Tower of Light (Brooklyn, NY).
And, despite my obsession, there will be a couple of new things with synths. Promise.
