"480 Minutes" - BAGeL Radio Top Music of 2020

The stable genius who lost the election by a lot is still claiming that he won by a lot and is suggesting that he may not leave the White House; more than 126 congressional Republicans are with him, as are at least 17 State Attorneys General and 2 fake states, for good measure. Despite all that somehow the big news story is that the incoming Deputy Chief of Staff used the word "fuckers" to describe the fuckers who are undermining American democracy.

Reaction from the fuckers has been absurd -- the President they are trying to help become an unelected head of state has behaved obscenely for four years. Also, what she actually said was,

“The president-elect was able to connect with people over this sense of unity,” O’Malley Dillon said. “In the primary, people would mock him, like, ‘You think you can work with Republicans?’ I’m not saying they’re not a bunch of fuckers. Mitch McConnell is terrible. But this sense that you couldn’t wish for that, you couldn’t wish for this bipartisan ideal? He rejected that. From start to finish, he set out with this idea that unity was possible, that together we are stronger, that we, as a country, need healing, and our politics needs that too.”

Marco Rubio, who infamously tried to start a dick-size contest during a 2016 Republican presidential debate, expressed faux outrage that she "called Republicans in Congress a bunch of f***ers.”

Former Republican White House Communications Director Nichole Wallace shot down Little Marco & the Pearl Clutchers best, and did so in less than 140 characters:

"Are we really talking about the f word in any context other than the f-ing people who stood by Trump as he boasted about “grabbing women in the pussy”, smeared “shit hole countries” called black NFL players “sons of bitches” and assaulted our democracy while ignoring covid?"

In less fraught news, Monday marks the Winter Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere and Sunday marks Summer Solstice in the Southern Hemisphere: happy (almost) winter and (almost) summer, respectively.

Winter started a little early here this week as New York received its first significant snowfall in a couple of years. It was a real pleasure to stand by the window listening to the falling snow crackle against the glass with the winds whistling & howling. The whole scene brought me back to simpler, happier times when I was too small to shovel.

Today's show is all about 2020 -- tune in to BAGeL Radio today to hear our top songs of 2020 -- today's playlist will be 2020 music all day (with a few songs released too late in 2019 to be included in our last year-end show).

The past couple of weeks were spent listening to the hundreds of new songs we added to rotation this year. Rediscovering great albums is always a joy. Arranging them and the songs therein into lists is...not so much of a joy. It's a bit like putting together a giant jigsaw puzzle without any guidance regarding what it should look like when complete. As usual not everything expected to make their respective top 50 lists did, and the chances that a deserving song/album/artist was inadvertently and unfairly overlooked in the process is near 100%, so apologies in advance for that.

The year-end top music show is always a lot of fun, and this one is shaping up to not 2020, as long as the fuckers don't start in with any fuckery to distract from what we're doing.

The top songs of the year countdown will begin with song #50 at 11 a.m. Eastern U.S. Time. We should reach the top 10 at around 2:15 p.m. and finish up around 3:00 p.m. The rest of the show will consist of our 150 or so other favorite songs of the year including some of our favorite cover versions sprinkled throughout.

For the year-end best-of edition of 480 Minutes the show is extended to a 12-hour run-time. That means that the rebroadcasts will begin 2 hours later than usual and start up again every 12 hours over the weekend (9 p.m., 9 a.m., 9 p.m., and so on...). The program schedule can be found at http://bagelradio2.blogspot.com/p/blog-page.html.

Catch up on 2020 in one day! The show is full of holiday gift ideas (hint: music!) so keep a list and check it twice (that's what reruns are for!).

The show is live-hosted from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Eastern U.S. Time, followed by 4 hours of uninterrupted music to accommodate as many 2020 songs as we can.

Lists of our top songs and top albums will be published to our site and socials...at some point.  Feel free to leave your lists in the comments, or e-mail them to ted(at)somafm.com.
