Yesterday the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill to keep contraception legal. Why was there a need to even bring up a bill to protect an obvious, long-standing, no-decent-argument against it civil right? Well let’s start by noting that 96% of House Republicans voted against the bill to keep contraception legal. Similar idiocy is expected from Senate Republicans. In 2022. And of course this rapid repealing of civil rights began with the activist Heritage Foundation (formerly Supreme) Court undermining voting rights &, more recently, reproductive rights.

I have questions. Do the people who vote for these Republicans enjoy sex? If so, do they realize that their representatives are actively working to maximize the risk of #ForcedBirth? Do they have the financial means to take family leave from work, pay hospital bills, & then raise for 18+ years the resultant football-team sized brood which fucking without contraception makes possible? Can someone explain to me how 21st century 1st world people think this is OK? Or do they not think about the consequences of these policies, it’s just about rah rah sis boom bah go team?

My hope here is that the Court / GOP severely overstepped by undoing Roe v. Wade. The decision, coupled with Clarence Thomas’ calls to revisit Court decisions on other civil rights including contraception & same-sex marriage (but notably miscegenation does not make Thomas’ list of a civil right that requires undoing because that would nullify his own marriage) could finally awaken these voters to what these policies mean to them & their loved ones. Oh wait, that would mean they’d be “woke.” They hate “woke” just like the hated “politically correct” before it because not being an asshole & not intentionally offending others is just too much to ask.

Oh, & if you haven’t seen the images of Josh “fist-in-the-air before the attack on the Capitol” Hawley later fleeing the building once it had been breached by the folks to whom he’d raised his fist in solidarity, well, it’s a rich & well-deserved shaming serving as a bold-faced, all-caps warning not to cross Liz Cheney. I can’t wait to see what she has in store for Kevin McCarthy in September.
