While global prices for seemingly everything soared making life tougher people everywhere, the one industry that can’t complain about suffering is Big Oil. As countries manipulate monetary policy & companies are pushed to charge more for everything from baby formula to hotels (22.6%!) to used cars (22.7%!), Big Oil continues to rake in record profits quarter after quarter. Did the major oil companies need to push gas prices higher than ever before to continue to operate? No. Had they not raised prices a nickel they would still have made billions. Just not as many billions, so hike prices they did, an obscene exploitative 43.6%, super-charging inflation in the U.S. while simultaneously pushing their decades-long public relations campaign of propaganda & obfuscation to slow any & all climate crisis mitigation efforts.

Who has supported the gorged on filthy lucre folks of Big Oil through this? Republicans. The Grand Oil Party. Naturally.

Speaking of the GOP, when you consider the sheer number of election-denying crackpots the party is supporting for governorships, secretary of state positions, & more, it’s now impossible for self-styled “centrists” & “moderates” to ignore that the only reasonable, middle-of-the-road is for a Democrat. A vote for a Republican is a vote to continue the tear-down of representative democracy which began with Nixon, accelerated under Reagan’s soothing, grandfatherly voice, got a boost of HGH from Darth & Dubyah’s military misadventures & privacy rights evisceration, then was loosed here at home on the actual physical halls of democracy under Trump. If anyone tries to argue, just say “John Lewis Voting Rights Act,” and if they don’t know what that is, say, “January 6th was a constitutionally protected expression of political discontent, yes or no?” & if they sidestep all of that remind yourself that even a majority of pro-life Americans look aghast at the Draconian abortion bans being enacted in Texas, Ohio, & other red states, so the term “forced-birth” should do the trick.
