And now, what you are really here for…this cynical optimist’s take on current events:

• The Reality-Destroying Right Wing Noise Machine™ is at it again, drawing false equivalences & spreading falsehoods, flipping reality into the upside down as a result. Sadly, as usual, much of the mainstream media is at best uncritically parroting & amplifying the propaganda because scandals real or imagined are good for business.

• A known racist teacher in Florida is kneeling before Governor Cruella deSantis with a pile of books to ban.

• In Arkansas the new Governor’s (daughter of a turned #YamTits sycophant) first action in office was to ban the teaching of Critical Race Theory in public schools, which is like banning dinosaurs from the International Space Station. The Executive Order statement directs the Department of Education to remove things “that conflict with the principle of equal protection under the law or encourage students to discriminate against someone based on characteristics protected by federal or state law.” Of course, banning the teaching of what discrimination against someone based on characteristics protected by federal or state law actually looks like will make it difficult for kids to even know what it is. Following a couple of hundred years of legal racism & discrimination followed by a few decades of mostly watered-down corrective policies, the right is working overtime to undo those corrective policies & they have just the Supreme Court to get the job done.

• Remember the “organized retail theft” wailing from Wallgreens & CVS & other retailers claiming an increase in shoplifting that was uncritically made a central part of the bullshit narrative about a "crime wave” that the mainstream media fell for & promoted? It was a cover used justify cutting costs (workers, rent) by closing stores. Of course they had to close stores after decades of flooding markets with way too many stores which put thousands of independent pharmacies & groceries out of business. Now that the independents are gone the field is clear so they can contract and blame failures on a boogeyman.

• #FraudSantos, the recently elected misrepresentative who lied about his employment history, family history, religion, education (even his high school) & so much more put out a statement that was meant to come across as “if my constituents recall me, I’ll resign.” The problem with that is his marks can’t recall him or any other member of congress. Bigger problem: the lazy mainstream media did just what the propagandists who came up with that shiny object for Santos expected…they ran with that obvious misdirection in their reporting, effectively using Santos’ latest fabrication to make him seem less horrible.

The national #GOP is secretly thrilled to have Santos as a distraction. Is his constant press mostly negative? Yes. Is it better for the #GOP to get negative press over Santos than, say… #ForcedBirth, #VoterSuppression, their now out-in-the-open attempts to cut Social Security & Medicare, new House Speaker Kevin McCarthy handing the keys of government to a bunch of know-nothing extreme #MAGAts hell-bent on sabotaging the world economy over a non-issue called the #DebtCeiling, right wing political violence including multiple shootings into the homes & offices of New Mexico officials (all Democrats), #YamTits tax evasion, #YamTits obstruction of justice, #YamTits attempted coup conspiracy, etc.? Why yes, yes it is better for the arsonists if we’re focused on an overgrown hedge out front while they are inside burning down the house.

Meanwhile the NY GOP is less thrilled because of how poorly he reflects on them & how negatively he will affect their future election chances. When they have him killed to avoid a “special election” all we will hear about is how the radical violent left pulled the trigger: “It was Antifa! Antifa killed our poor Manchurian candidate!” And the mainstream media will probably fall for it.

• Saddened by the untimely death of Lisa Marie Presley yesterday. Not looking forward to the sure-to-go-viral #ProPolioPinhead tweets claiming the COVID vaccine killed her.
