“480 Minutes” - Right(s) Strippers
Interesting times we live in…Republicans in Ohio tried to sneakily derail a coming referendum to protect reproductive rights by changing the requirements to get such things before voters. They scheduled the vote for August, figuring people would be on vacation or otherwise not paying attention, and still, they lost. For decades the GOP has lied about its intentions (“Roe is settled law”), & they continue to do so today. They are not just trying to codify forced-birth, they are also trying to ban contraception. Is this a “we want complete control of the masses” thing, or a “as mass food-production activities collapse due to the effects of climate change we’re going to need our Solyent Green” thing?
Now Ohio Governor Mike DeWine seeks a compromise. Sir, the time for compromise on body autonomy was…well, never…& it certainly is not after you & your Republican pals in the legislature tried to cheat the majority of Ohioans out of having their say in the matter. Which is kind of what this is about, isn’t it? Republicans don’t want people to have a say in their most personal decisions & are actively working to take those rights away, even if that means short-circuiting democracy.
On the matter of reproductive rights my position is absolute — the right to choose is inviolable. No one decides to abort a pregnancy “just because,” there is always a reason & suggesting otherwise is disingenuous at best. It is also irrelevant, because taking away the right to make these personal decisions is one giant leap for humankind…away from freedom.
Speaking of freedom, Yale history professor Timothy Snyder provided the best rebuttal yet to the absurd claims that the Orange Menace is being treated unfairly over his attempts to undermine democracy while he continues to try to undermine democracy:
This comic strip is so spot on that it may finally get me to quit Elmo’s ToXic Dumpster Fire & Zuck’s Book O’ Distortion:
