There have been many new additions to the playlists in recent days including singles from Mew (Pick-o-Bagel), The Vessels (Pick-o-Bagel), Clearlake, Grand Drive, The Cassanovas, Simple Plan, Something Corporate, The Beastie Boys, Biffy Clyro, Byrne, Mu-Kau, The Blam, Lomax, Elviss, Sharko, Black Box Recorder, and Solanoid.
The only place in the Bay Area where you are likely to find most of these is Mod Lang Records in Berkeley.
In the past week we have enjoyed live performances by Sahara Hotnights, The Music, The Vines, The Coral, and Supergrass, and last night it was an acoustic set by Mark Gardener of seminal "shoegazer" band Ride that had me grinning ear to ear. As a result of these shows, (more) songs from each band will be added to the playlists this weekend.
I was given some Beatles rarities which I have just begun to review. One track definitely bound for the Repackaged Show is a cover of Bob Dylan's "Subterrannean Homesick Blues." There's also a version of "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" that is notable because on it Paul is not playing bass (at least not the bass line that ended up driving the released version) -- most interesting to see how important simple parts of songs can be.
A batch of new promo CDs arrived this week so the Fresh (newest stuff) and Pick-o-Bagel (utterly subjective top 20) Shows will contain even more brand new, never before heard on these (US) shores indie rock, so please tune in and continue to hound your friends about the station.
Keep those comments, suggestions, heckles, gifts of love, gifts of graft, and Glamor Shots coming in (feedback@bagelradio.com).
In other news, spoke with the CEO of Live365 on Wednesday and apparently Live365 is getting ready to release a live broadcast solution for the Macintosh, so the first BAGeL Radio live broadcast is fast approaching. You won't want to miss it -- it will likely be a horribly embarrassing event for me, but entertaining to witness.
The gig journal was updated today and includes last night's Mark Gardener show.
Finally, the gig list was updated today and now includes a bunch of Shoreline shows including R.E.M./ Wilco and Lollapalooza '03 (Jane's Addiction/ Audioslave/ others), so check it out (bagelradio.com) and get tickets while they are still available. See you at the shows.
