"480 Minutes" - 2/2/07 - New Cloud Cult (album)
Many of you know that Cloud Cult's 2005 album ADVICE FROM THE HAPPY HIPPOPOTAMUS -- despite that awful title and some seriously creepy (and not in a good way) album art -- is one of my favorite albums of the decade so far. The follow-up is here, it is called THE MEANING OF 8, and while I can't determine how it compares with HIPPO, I am already in love with it after just two listens. Be prepared for much Cloud Cult today -- it's albums like this that make it absolutely necessary to host an 8-hour weekly program.
Then we have The Cobbs, a Philadelphia band that used to go by the name Ty Cobb. They have an amazing new album out called SING THE DEATHCAPADES...and they are not signed.
Have I mentioned the Chris Garneau record? Back in September, based only on hearing two demos, I dragged Misty all the way to the west side of Manhattan (99.45% of CMJ takes place on the east side) to see Garneau. We both agreed that it was worth the trip, and so is the gorgeous, just released album.
Today's edition of "480 Minutes" will also feature new stuff from The Affair, Carlos Niño & Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, The Catholic Comb, The Cinematics, Dirty On Purpose, The Fratellis, Lesley Lane, Mancino, The Saps, Sneaky Thieves, Tom Brosseau, and The View.
As I mentioned last week, besides streaming through Live365 and iTunes, BAGeL Radio is now also streaming through La La. Next time you launch the stream and get the dreaded "This station is currently full" message, point your browser to LaLa.com, click the triangle next to BAGeL Radio to listen through their unobtrusive little player window.
Please tune in for "480 Minutes" today from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific Time and request songs and stuff via:
