"480 Minutes" - Least Favorite Venue

The Front Bottoms are going to be performing today (Friday 8/30) at 6 p.m. at a 117-capacity music store in Asbury Park, NJ called Russo Music.   That promises to be an amazing scene!  Get there early and bring your pogoing shoes if you can get there at all!

Tonight I'm heading out to see Nashville band Diarrhea Planet and Brooklyn locals So So Glos, each of which has a new release currently in rotation here on BAGeL Radio. Unfortunately they are playing at one of my least favorite venues of all-time, The Mercury Lounge.  The room is nice, the sound is good, the location is excellent, but I've never had a positive experience with any member of the ML staff. The door staff, in particular, has always been dickish, even on slower nights.  So much so that during music festivals I avoid the venue entirely -- they treat customers, and potential customers, like annoyances to be suffered and if possible, turned away.  Not pleasant.

I used to have similar feelings about a couple of San Francisco venues, Slim's and The Independent, but they both came around in recent years.  Here's hoping The Mercury Lounge has had a similar turnaround in the 5 years since I last decided to spend my money there (and allow their staff to treat me like shit for no reason).
