"480 Minutes" - And The Children Shall Lead

High school kids are speaking truth eloquently and passionately to power.  In stark contrast, power is speaking mealy-mouthed jibberish.  The concept they are pushing, that school kids will be safer if Mr. Hand and Mrs. Krabappel have guns, makes the NRA and the Orange Menace appear more insane than ever. Doubling down on the "more guns everywhere!" strategy when the tide is clearly turning is an almost unimaginably tone deaf response.  Kinda like following a violent confrontation between torch carrying white supremacists and people who believe that we are all equal by suggesting some Nazis are very fine people.

We are beginning to see major corporations distance themselves from the NRA, an entity which advocates for the proliferation among civilians of devices designed solely to kill and maim.  This may signal the beginning of the end for the NRA, which wraps itself in the flag as defenders of the Constitution, but in reality it is simply the marketing arm of the gun industry.  Their reason for existence is simple: to sell more guns.  Credit where credit is due: they have have done an amazing job of scaring the shit out of Americans. They have managed to convince less than 100M people to  stock up on over 300 million guns to date. From vehement opposition to restrictions on gun sales to authoring their own bills loosening current restrictions (which are then sponsored and pushed into law by the Chuck Grassleys and Marco Rubios of the world) like the tobacco companies before them these people will put millions of live at risk for the sake of a buck. They have made access to guns so easy that a 13 year old kid, after he was filmed being denied attempting to buy beer, cigarettes, and a lottery ticket was able to walk into a gun show and buy a rifle and ammo in minutes.  The NRA makes us all less safe and plays on fear to make some of us think we need more guns.

Today we will debut new music by The Breeders (Dayton, OH, @thebreeders), Car Seat Headrest (Seattle, WA, @carseatheadrest), Cup (Brooklyn, NY, @cupisaband), Hibou (Seattle, WA, @hibouband), His and Her Vanities (Madison, WI), Screaming Females (New Brunswick, New Jersey, @screamales), Soccer Mommy (Nashville, TN, @sopharela), and U.S. Girls (Toronto, Canada, @yousgirls).
