"480 Minutes" - NSM

Today's 480 Minutes program will debut far less new music than usual in part because I've been under the weather so I hate everything and in part because a solid 40% of digital submissions this week were rejected due to format, bit rate, or metadata issues. Simple stuff. Basic stuff. It’s as if we'd been sent scratched copies of the records. In a blank wrapper. Some radio promo companies and in-house promo departments at labels take umbrage when recipients, aka the people they are supposed to encourage to air their music, request files that are air play quality, as if somehow this wasn't actually their job. Some don't even bother responding to such requests.

If you are an artist or a label on the market for radio promo, do ask around before hiring someone to handle this underrated but often critical step in getting your music heard. If you are a higher-up at a label who passes this function off to interns or untrained new hires, you should add yourself to your own company's digital servicing list for a week and check out what is being sent out in your and your artists' name.

Far less music to debut today, but still some, including new music today from The Burning Peppermints (Birmingham, AL, @burningmints),  Exitmusic (Brooklyn, NY, @weareEXITMUSIC), and  Speedy Ortiz (Northampton, MA, @sad13).

The show is live-hosted from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Eastern U.S. Time and is followed by 2 hours of uninterrupted music.  The show is then rebroadcast in it's entirety beginning at 7 p.m., then again on Saturday at 5 a.m. and 3 p.m., and one final time on Sunday at 1 a.m., followed by a rebroadcast of this week's  Fuzzy Road radio show at 11 a.m.
