"480 Minutes" - May I Have A Word

The calendar has turned to May and the Kumbaya of last week has been replaced by full-on disgust for the people who are destroying U.S. democracy while sworn to protect it. I can't imagine what they are thinking for the long-term, if anything, because what is happening is just what Putin always wanted -- for the U.S. to eat itself from within. The President, Republican members of Congress, pundits on op-ed pages, and talking heads on cable news channels are in an all-out war with the pillars of democracy from the free press to faith in institutions, and everything in between.

Last month the Attorney General of the United States lied to Congress. I will repeat that -- the top law enforcement officer in the land lied to our elected representatives. Under oath. With the cameras rolling. And then he had the temerity to do so again this week, repeatedly, at a Republican-chaired congressional hearing, before refusing to appear at the Democrat-chaired congressional hearing the next day. The deep, dark, pathological mendacity of this administration infects, corrupts, and diminishes everyone associated with it.

When the President who refuses to hand over requested documents that he must legally release is being protected by the actual top law enforcement officer in the country, we are perilously close to losing even the veneer of living under the rule of law. Said officer is supposed to be protecting us, not the 72-year old as-yet-unindicted criminal co-conspirator whose pathological lying is only increasing.

We must demand that our representatives investigate and remove this dangerous cabal now, and hold the enablers accountable.

Speaking of dangerous, today's 480 Minutes show will feature new songs by Body Type (Sydney, Australia, @bodytypeband), DEHD (Chicago, IL), Drahla (Leeds, England), Hash Redactor (Memphis, TN, @hash_redactor), STOOR (Dundee, Scotland, @STOOR44), and Truth Club (Raleigh, NC, @jointruthclub).
