"480 Minutes" - The Civil War (and the Uncivilized Wars)

"Go back to where you came from" directly infers "you are not from here" and "you don't belong here." That is why good people never say such things, and the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission specifically calls out the phrase, "Go back where you came from" as a violation of anti-discrimination in the workplace law.

The President of the United States of America suggested that four congresswomen of color should "go back" to "where they originally came from," several congressional Republicans defended, echoed, and/or amplified that sentiment, and all of them are now publicly in violation of U.S. law.

At his next public propaganda event the deplorables in attendance "spontaneously" starting chanting "send her back" after he'd whipped them into a frenzy by repeating several hateful lies, he threw said deplorables under a bus claiming, "I didn't say it. They said it." The fellow whose words they were parroting, very likely lead by paid members of his team sprinkled throughout the crowd, disavowed himself of the sentiment saying he doesn't agree with it. The words he Tweeted, and then doubled down on, and then tripled down on, and then said again during this very rally...he doesn't agree with.

And still, they cheered.

In other heart wrenching news, before his suicide, lead singer of Frightened Rabbit Scott Hutchison asked some musician friends to record their own versions of songs from the brilliant The Midnight Organ Fight album to celebrate it's 10th anniversary. They did, and the resultant album Tiny Changes landed on my desk a few weeks ago. I couldn't find the nerve to listen to it. I was afraid that songs I love would be mangled, and afraid to hear one song in particular which I haven't listened to since Scott took his life. Well, the record came out this week, so I had to listen. I made it through that one, “Floating In The Forth," with just tears, but when Julien Baker's take on “The Modern Leper" reached the line, "I've got this disease I can't shake and I'm just rattling through life" the full-on blubbering began and long outlasted the song. I'm still feeling that one.

So, if you were a Frightened Rabbit fan, check out the record, there are several worthy covers on it, and for those who weren't partial to Scott's brogue (you scoundrels know who you are), I urge you to give these versions a listen. Scott's lyrics are worth the effort.
