"480 Minutes" - No Exculpatory Evidence
The rest has been noise, unsubstantiated conspiracy theories, non-sequiturs, and flat out fictions. You know: Fox News.
Watching Fox News this week (and I hate to say this, but I recommend it at the moment) it seems that the big take away from these hearings they want their viewers to have is that serious knowledgable career public officials who have served with distinction through administrations of both parties are nerds.
There were a couple of instances of very interesting political timing yesterday: in Washington D.C., Republican senators blocked discussion of a bill to expand background checks for firearm purchases at the same time that teens were being shot and killed at a California high school; in Venice, Italy, a government chamber was flooded minutes after the council had voted to reject climate change measures.
Also this week I learned something I did not know about my country: religious and sexual discrimination are A-OK:
Earlier this month, the Trump administration announced that it will allow foster care and adoption center that receive federal dollars to discriminate in the name of their beliefs. This decision was made after the White House issued a waiver to an evangelical placement agency in South Carolina that didn’t want to serve same-sex, Muslim, Jewish, and interfaith couples.
If you need a succinct way to keep up on the madness, I recommend this daily summary put together by my friend Matt. The profanity in the name is an accurate reflection of how many of us in the U.S. feel on a daily basis as the scandals, antithetical policies, bullying, and corruption pile up. Matt has been incredibly diligent keeping this up, and his summaries contain links to the actual news stories from actual news sources:
