“480 Minutes” - V-Day
Happy Valentine’s Day to those who celebrate; Miserable Anti-Valentines Day to those who do not.
Somehow we’re just six weeks into 2025 & yet it feels like FElon & The Orange Menace & their greedy bastard billionaire buddies have been here for a lifetime. It was difficult to keep calm & BAGeL on during the OM’s 1st term when the faux bully used the bully pulpit to put at risk vulnerable minority communities, individual citizens, & long-time allies. It looks like it will be damned near impossible this time, so I’m soliciting advice from any & everyone on how to handle it: the sadness, embarrassment, & rage caused by the non-stop firehose of hatefulness, mendacity, & stupidity emanating from Washington-a-lago.
A few news stories that should probably be getting wider & deeper media coverage:
So far the “stop all funding” approach to gov’t has resulted in an immediate $100 surcharge on the energy bills of low-income Alabama residents who voted overwhelmingly for President F.Elonald Mump.
In Texas a county that voted 91% for Mump reported their measles outbreak had expanded to 24 children on the day Senate Republicans installed Trump’s vaccine-denier selection as Health & Human Services Secretary.
A company owned by a billionaire Trump megadonor (& “immigrant invasion” hatemonger) shuttled Mexican workers to work in their U.S. warehouses using tourist visas & temporary B1 visas meant for employees to receive training, not for work. This was reported by The Guardian in December, but somehow the mainstream media has still not reported on this scandal.
Finally, Elon Musk is a dick.
Once again I’ll try to keep my rage at bay during the show today, but no guarantees.
