“480 Minutes” - Trump vs. The Magna Carta
800 years ago the Magna Carta was written & codified promising protection from from illegal imprisonment & seizure of property by a tyrannical leader. While it did not specifically call for individual rights it did lay the groundwork for bedrock principles in the U.S. Constitution including due process & government constrained by law & courts.
When MSNBC hosts like Chris Jansing present the story of the illegal kidnapping of Kilmar Abrego Garcia by Trump’s immigration goons as “Trump vs. a judge,” they are obscuring a far bigger story. Frames like Trump vs. due process, Trump vs. The Billl of Rights, Trump vs. the rule of law, or Trump vs. the Magna fucking Carta are far more accurate descriptions of what is happening & communicate why Americans need to pay attention. Jansing’s framing comes across as “Ho, hum, Trump is about to start calling another judge names & doxxing their children.”
The mainstream media has been willfully downplaying the worst things Trump has said & done for more than a decade now. That’s part of the reason a traitorous convicted felon sits in the White House. Surely the right wing echo chamber of Fox News et al are responsible for most of the 77 million who voted for this, but the MSM not sounding the alarm is responsible for a portion of the 90 million Americans of voting age who did not vote. 75 million voted for the woman most did not know & was forced on them at the very last minute.
It’s been nearly 3 months since the measles outbreak began in Texas yet RFK Jr., the pro-Polio pinhead Trump put in charge of the department of Health & Human Services still has not addressed the nation about the importance of vaccinating kids. In fact his comments on the subject include vaccine skepticism & outright lies. The number of infected is over 750 now, including 3 deaths, all unvaccinated.
This week RFK Jr. gave an address about autism in which he spent 30 minutes lying about autism referring to autism as disease — it is not, it is a neurological condition & stigmatizing autistic Americans as a burden on society (”these are kids who will never pay taxes, never hold a job”) & their families (“many of them will never use a toilet unassisted”).
It was about as disgusting a display of the cruelty, mendacity, & stupidity of the MAGA worldview which includes deriding the vulnerable & marginalized for fun. His call to investigate the cause of increasing autism diagnoses is code for the debunked conspiracy theory that vaccines are somehow responsible.
Earlier this month RFK’s HHS fired without cause the entire Centers for Disease Control Viral Hepatitis lab as it was investigating a Hepatitis C outbreak in Florida. Fortunately for Florida, the CDC team figured out the likely source of the infection before DOGE fired them. Not as lucky: Oregon, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, New Mexico, Wisconsin, West Virginia, & Georgia, which are also experiencing Hep C outbreaks.
