“480 Minutes” - Hakeem Jeffries Tells It Like It Is
Republicans suggesting Democratic attempts to protect existing rights are “radical” while they upend 50-years of precedent against the will of the majority is about as Orwellian as it gets. Unfortunately Democratic leadership is clearly not up to the task of protecting us from these attacks on privacy rights/civil rights/human rights, calling a vote on the exact same fucking bill the Republican Taliban is already on record having voted against in March. Nothing gained. At all. Seriously, Senator Schumer, what the fuck? Only by not calling a vote at all could you have appeared less effectual.
In other gaslighting, a sitting Supreme Court Justice who gives speeches at hyper-partisan events (judges are supposed to avoid even the appearance of political bias) had the gall to suggest that the judiciary is threatened if the commonfolk are unwilling to “live with outcomes we don’t agree with.” This man’s wife was so unwilling to live with an outcome she didn’t agree with that she sent 21 text messages to White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows imploring him to take steps to overturn the 2020 election in the weeks after Election Day.
NYC Representative Hakeem Jeffries is a rare exception in domestic politics today. He tells it like it is. Most of our elected officials & media-types seem unable to summon up the will to do the same, which may keep them safe from the RWNJs for now but puts the rest of us & our progeny at grave risk. Cowards.
In somewhat less globally catastrophic news, BAGeL Radio continues to exist only because our listeners support our mission. We have not yet found solid financial footing in our new form and need your help with the costs of running an internet radio station (including but not limited to royalties, stream hosting, web hosting, equipment), in fact we’re not close to covering even those basics listed. If you can help, please do — tax-deductible (for U.S. listeners) recurring donations are ideal, one-time donations are great, & if you work for a large company, please check with Human Resources to see if your employer offers matching donations. That’s a great way to double your impact without doubly impacting your wallet. A stylish way to help is to grab yourself or a loved one a BAGeL Radio-branded laptop sleeve here. Thank you.
