“480 Minutes” - Back To Life
On my way home from pinball league on Monday night there was a sudden blizzard. Out of the blue Queens Boulevard looked like a snow globe. The world’s least attractive snow globe filled with car lots & flapping mylar flags, but a snow globe. The snowfall ended shortly thereafter, almost as quickly as it began. Just a tease.
Yesterday it was 64°F (18°C) & sunny…because of course it was.
This week I had a reason to visit LaGuardia Airport for the first time in a while. That airport has been an embarrassment for my entire lifetime, but has been undergoing a makeover. Terminal B is all-new & gorgeous. It even has high tech bathrooms that request that you to rate their cleanliness with a tap on a screen. Clean public bathrooms in NYC — who’d a thunk it? The long hallway to the parking garage has 20+ foot tall stained glass ceilings that are high-res photos of NYC…so high-res that in some of them one can see right into apartments.
There are also a couple of bizarre bits of the stained glass window including the top of the Chrysler building appearing upside down atop one pane & a construction crane doing the same in another. I’ve never wanted to go back to an airport just to study the stained glass art therein, so kudos to whoever designed the whole thing, & that hallway in particular.
