“480 Minutes” - The United States of Forced-Birth
Before diving into the only mildly embellished terror that is today’s subject line, please note that at the bottom of this post there are a bunch of worthwhile videos for several of the new songs we will be debuting today & one trailer for a film being re-released. Last week we touched on the subject of a frivolous meritless case being brought by the anti-science Gilead contingent to undermine medical abortion nationwide. Since they brought the frivolous meritless case in the jurisdiction of a Trump-appointed anti-science Forced-Birth crusader judge, it is being heard despite the aforementioned lack of merit or evidence or any reason other than to ensure that only people of means have access to abortion because the machines need grist & the cannons need fodder & women need to be put back in their place.
Politicians outright lying about what it means to be Pro Choice are met with little pushback when arguments based in reason & human rights easily undermine their every argument, even the ones which are not outright lies.
This is all happening even though a majority of Republicans believe that abortion should remain safe & legal. Meanwhile zealots out to completely ban abortion call their opponents radicals (for wanting to maintain reproductive rights as they’d stood for 50 years), & our media covers it that way, as if it’s left vs. right. This framing misses the forest for the trees. The Gilead Crusaders are a tiny twisted minority funded, warped, & motivated by extremely wealthy & powerful interests. It’s them vs. the vast majority of the population.
After decades of right wing Supreme Court nominees saying “Roe is settled law” to get confirmed, those now justices have since scuttled precedent & stole away that long-standing right. In the months since that 24 states have enacted or are in the process of enacting near-total abortion bans. Add to that this aforementioned attempted end-run around the FDA which could remove from the market the preferred abortion method & in under a year since the Dobbes decision overturned decades of precedent the Forced-Birth minority could have what amounts to total victory: most abortion banned in half the states, & the total removal of a medical abortion option nationwide.
