“480 Minutes” - Queens Man Arrested

This week a former President of the United States (& Queens man) was arrested in New York on 34 criminal counts. It was a sad day for America, but also a great day for the rule of law. Of course Fox & GOP leadership is attempting to invert the rule of law to mean not holding criminals accountable, which makes sense when you consider that Fox is being held accountable for promoting democracy-damaging lies about a voting machines manufacturer, while more than a few prominent Republicans are implicated in some of the far more serious crimes the #OrangeMenace will soon be charged with.

Elsewhere, Idaho sprinted ahead of Texas in the Red State race to become Gilead.

Yesterday the Tennessee House of Representatives set out to show, on live television, why conservatives are so afraid of Critical Race Theory. You see, racism is their thing, and CRT provides a framework for understanding the way systemic racism perpetuates discrimination & disadvantage. Tennessee House Republicans attempted to expel 3 House Democrats for the same “infractions” (they dared to side with citizens protesting the legislature’s refusal to mitigate gun violence even after a horrific mass shooting in Nashville), going so far as to compare the peaceful protest with the January 6th insurrection. The GOP managed to expel two of them. The non-white ones. The white one still holds her job.

At it’s core Critical Race Theory is the study of institutional bias against the poor & marginalized for the benefit of the wealthy & powerful based on the social construct of “race.” The unequal application of the law as a means of oppression is well-documented. The vote to oust the 2 black legislators but not the white one was a more blatant display of institutional racism as we’re likely to see play out on live television.
