“480 Minutes” - Tucker Tossed, Fox-Lobotomized Wonder Why
Fox News fired bomb-throwing hypocrite racist sexist big-lie pushing white ethno-nationalist “entertainer” Tucker Carlson in the wake of the Dominion Voting Systems defamation lawsuit. After years of warping his audience nightly w/ general meanness, ludicrous conspiracy theories, fake victimhood, & increasingly carrying the torch for white ethno-nationalism & being paid handsomely for it, Carlson is, for the time being, out of a job. Apparently many viewers switched away from Fox News upon this (actual) news (with urging from insurrectionists like MTG), perhaps not realizing that Fox had fired a guy who privately couldn’t stand their boy.
[My miserable prediction: after Trump is forced to drop out of the presidential contest due to a conviction or “health issue,” Carlson will be the GOP candidate in 2024].
Besides texts revealing that Carlson, along with other prominent Fox on-air mouthpieces for The Federalist Society/Heritage Foundation, knew he/they were outright lying to their viewers, there were also texts in which Carlson trashed his higher-ups at the network & others in which he trashed that sacred cow of MAGA, Trump himself (gasp!).
The firing highlights a dilemma we Americans find ourselves in — a HUGE chunk of the population literally knows less about reality than they would if they watched no news rather than ingesting Fox News nonsense. From what I’ve seen on social media, MAGA seems convinced that Carlson left of his own accord even going so far as to ask, repeatedly, why Fox would fire him. To those outside the right wing echo chamber it seems obvious that the facts of the Dominion case, including the devastating private e-mails which Fox most certainly has not shared with them, presented multiple fireable offenses. Besides that, one might think that a group so proud of “doing their own research” would be able to see for themselves the salient observable points that Carlson neither announced he was leaving nor hosted a farewell show. These are not the actions of one who quit while on top.
I know we're supposed to play nice with the deplorables but after repeated “Hunter Biden’s laptop” or “climate change is good” or “Blue Lives Matter” attempts at misdirection, even trying to establish even basic facts seems pointless.
Anyway, the world is a better place now that the Fox #MAGAphone platform has been taken from this particular cruel & gleeful loudmouth purveyor of untruths who parroted Putin’s lies as passionately as he did those of #Individual1 (who he despised). That said, far greater & broader accountability will be required to save the American Experiment from the vast right wing conspiracy behind the capture of the Supreme Court, much of the federal judiciary, far too many State Houses, & of course the Fox-lobotomized millions actively working against their own interests in service of the ultra wealthy fascists pouring their undertaxed billions into a decades-long effort to undermine democracy.
