“480 Minutes” - GOP=KGB
A Republican Senator is opposed to the military policy of helping service members in Gilead states travel to states that live in the present time for abortion services. This single asshat Senator, who doesn’t even live in the state he supposedly represents, is holding up the confirmation of hundreds of military promotions. Besides the morale issues this is causing, imagine the practical implications — this one asshat, who won his seat thanks in large part to retired military veterans, is purposely leaving hundreds of military families in limbo over where to send their kids to school, where to buy/rent a place to live, etc. The inability or unwillingness of Republican leadership, particularly the usually powerful Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell, to get this one asshat to stop being an asshat, tells you all you need to know about the party’s ability/desire to govern.
If you need more evidence, a handful of MAGA zealots in the House of Representatives are trying to hold the entire country hostage. If their “leader,” Kevin McCarthy, doesn’t get a Trump tattoo on his forehead (or something, the flying monkeys haven’t exactly been clear about their demands), they are threatening to shut down the government, which hurts everyone in the long run but immediately halts paychecks to a military members, over 1 million federal employees (but not Congress), & severely impacts many private companies who do business with the gov’t. Meanwhile, there are more than enough overall votes in the House to override these arsonists, but McCarthy is so afraid of them that he won’t call a vote. You can’t make this stuff up.
Finally, the non-indicted Republicans running for their party’s nomination had a “debate” this week. It was hard to watch & the only winners were Democratic Party strategists, whose jobs were made a lot easier. If said strategists compile snippets of the out-of-touch anti-union, anti-working class declarations made on that stage & make political ads out of them, that will be more effective than actually trying to sell their own policies to voters who somehow don’t understand that the Republicans are & have long been working to cut funding & services that help average Americans & the poor while running a Robin Hood-in-reverse scheme funneling those billions to those who least need them, i.e. the ultra-wealthy & massive corporations. Maybe when those GOP voters hear it from the mouths of their party’s candidates they will finally get it. A fella can dream…
