“480 Minutes” - Chaos Agents

My niece had been studying in Israel for the past few months which made for a stressful weekend. The family was most relieved when she decided to leave the country after hundreds of well-trained & well-armed Hamas terrorists launched a coordinated invasion of Israel from the Gaza Strip killing hundreds of civilians, destroying homes, & taking hostages.

Despite no specific threats, the fact that Hamas leadership has called a “global day of jihad” today (Friday 10/13/23) is prompting people I know people here in NYC to not go to work. Is that an overreaction? How to know?

As if the GOP chaos in Washington DC (threats of a government shutdown, blocking military promotions, a leaderless rudderless majority party in the House), the Trump-caused chaos (attacking every American institution & perceived enemy), & the Putin-caused chaos (Ukraine) weren’t enough, now a dangerous chaos agent is openly working to destabilize the Middle East & beyond.

I have long been skeptical & critical of the Netanyahu government. Having his hateful, race-baiting, anti-democratic extreme right wing coalition leading the response to this intractable situation makes me doubt it will be handled with the care & restraint required to avoid making matters even worse. I hope I am wrong.
