“480 Minutes” - Ice Storm In Memphis

This week while barnstorming the country reinforcing The Big Lie while offering support to shameless sycophants running for office, Bumbling Benedict Orange went right ahead and publicly admitted he tried to overturn the election. He’s still not in jail. In fact, he’s running around promoting future political violence. Just another week in the U.S.A.

Also after 50 years it seems Russia is finally ready to test the strength of the NATO alliance. Seeing as The Former Guy did everything he could to undermine said alliance, & it seems Germany’s need for fossil fuels may Trump its commitments to the alliance, Putin might have timed his 100k troop invasion of Ukraine just right.

In other news, neo-Nazis showed up in droves this week from Boston to Florida & when asked about it, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis had nothing to say to the Nazis. Instead he railed against Democrats claiming they were using this against him (they had not yet) as he provided audio & video for them to use against him. He also became the poster child for the narrative that while the “very fine people on both sides” asshole didn’t create these neo-Nazis, he & his Mini Me in Florida amongst others in mainstream Republican politics have protected & promoted them instead of doing what Americans have been doing for nearly 80 years — rejecting, marginalizing, & when necessary jailing them.

This week Spotify defended its decision to host & pay handsomely a massive disinformation conduit because, apparently, its “company mission” of reaching 1 billion users is more important than…seemingly anything. For users of that service who are angry that their money is in part paying over $100M to DisInfoJoe, there are options. If it rubs you the wrong way that Spotify’s bottom line & megalomaniacal mission allows it to not just provide access to their massive platform but to actively promote a guy who claims that hosting vaccine efficacy deniers is “just having a conversation,” you have alternatives. If what’s kept you from switching is concern about losing your library/playlists, good news: you can quickly & easily transfer that stuff directly to Deezer.

Shameless plug: if you drop your streaming music service because you find that you are doing most of your music listening via BAGeL Radio or another independent music source, consider redirecting that monthly cash to the source(s) you get the most out of.

Finally, about half of the U.S. population is under winter weather advisories today due to freezing temperatures, snow & ice storms, & 4 million people are without power, mostly in Texas but also in Memphis, TN, where our friends Laura Jean & Chris celebrated their anniversary yesterday by playing old school, no-electricity-required Wordle (aka Scrabble). Happy anniversary you geeks! :)
