Radio Ga Ga September 2003

9/26 - 9/ 29
A few recurrents found their way into rotation this weekend including Sunstorm, Wilt, The Reindeer Section, The Charlatans U.K., Mercury Rev, New Order, The Beatles, Redd Kross, Siouxsie & The Banshees, and Portishead. Two new things -- Australian band JET, and the 22-20s. Click to read the gig journal entry about JET's music, hair, and recent show opening for Kings of Leon in SF. Other new gig journal entries can be found at the link above, too. Enjoy!

Still have not made it through the stack of stuff that arrived last week, but there are a few more new playlist additions today including The Blueskins, Cosmic Rough Riders, Echoboy (Pick-o-Bagel), Chungking, Mountaineers, Delays, Grayson Wray, The Robocop Kraus, Small Victories, The Tyde (another Pick-o-Bagel!), Stephen Jones, Woodstar, Apollo 440, Oceansize, and Fiery Furnaces. Also added today were a few classics that had been burning a hole in my iPod including Psychedelic Furs (even though John Ashton never returned my call), R.E.M. (because that song by Brand New reminds me of "7CB"), Echo & The Bunnymen, Tones on Tail, The Smiths, The Pixies, and lots of (too much?) Radiohead. Enjoy!

Radiohead was sooo good at the Shoreline Ampitheatre last night that the gig journal may actually get a new entry today. Until then, todays new additions to the BAGeL Radio playlist include Stellastar* (Pick-o-Bagel), Earlimart, Mondo, The Tyde(Pick-o-Bagel), I Am Kloot, Delays, more amazing Quasi, Mates of State, Swine, The Ataris covering Don Henly without mentioning Deadhead stickers, JT Mouse (Pick-o-Bagel), Franz Ferdinand (Pick-o-Bagel), The Altogether (Pick-o-Bagel), Si Begg, Mountaineers (Pick-o-Bagel), Border Crossing, Brand New (sounds like R.E.M.'s "7 Chinese Bros."), The Keys, Chungking, Small Victories, Echoboy, Munkster, Zoot Woman, The Robocop Kraus, Pleasure (featuring Justine Frischmann of Elastica), Tahiti 80, OK Go, Fiery Furnaces, and The Jeevas (containing the soon-to-be-a-classic refrain, "How much do you suck/ To lose a popularity contest/ With Saddam Hussein?") (Pick-o-Bagel). There is more still to come from last week's bounty, so stay tuned. Enjoy!

New stuff that arrived this week will be reviewed over the weekend and the top shelf items will be added into rotation early next week along with more Super Furries, The Rapture, Broken Social Scene, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs because I just can't get enough of those bands right now.

9/10/03
We start off this edition of the BAGeL Radio add-fest with the song of the day/month/year-to-date from Quasi (Pick-o- Bagel), more Kings of Leon (Pick-o-Bagel), (thanks Karen), and continue with brand new stuff from Spiritualized, Iron & Wine (thanks Seth), The Clientele (thanks Libby), Pretty Girls Make Graves (Pick-o-Bagel), Nagg, The Aktion, Coachwhips, Boyskout, Super Furry Animals (Pick-o-Bagel), Star Spagles (one song sounds like Cheap Trick covering Social Distortion, then SD covering CT, depending on whether they are in the chorus or the verse), Broken Social Scene, Cooper Temple Clause, Broadcast, The Rapture (Pick-o-Bagel), Elbow, and not so new stuff from Ikon, The Hoodoo Gurus, and those very same Super Furries. But older. Enjoy.
